Main Boom Vang Padeye Replacement

on our way back from two harbors to oside, we hear a classic loud snap! turns out it was the boom vang padeye — though we wouldn’t know what it was ‘til after a good bit of research.

the original was mounted about a quarter of the way down the boom, which meant we had to open the boom somehow. how the heck do we get to it?

rusty found the closest fitting he could, had a friend weld it to match the setup, then we used fishing line to thread it through the hollow boom (which took feeding a belt and pull it into place.

instead of screws or bolts, rusty learned how to use a special flat fastener tool … it’s on the tip of my tongue, but it did the job. (rivet gun)

boom’s back together, sails stayed on, badabing badaboom!
